About the Music Classes at Greendale
Each student in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade at Greendale Elementary has music class once a week for 40 minutes (Pre-Kindergarten and SPED students have music for 30 minutes once weekly). Mr. Fore uses a balance of physical, visual, and aural activities to reinforce the melodic and rhythmic concepts that are the focus of each lesson, as outlined in the Kodaly Method of music education. Music literacy is heavily emphasized. A typical music lesson at Greendale includes singing, instrument playing, dance/movement, and a developmentally-appropriate game or activity that reinforces the musical concept being taught. Students in 4th and 5th grade have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder in music class. Third, 4th, and 5th grade students have the option of joining the after school Greendale Choir.
